This is an opportunity for you to apply to be an FF Tutor for our Summer Schools coming up this year!

About the Summer Schools:  Future Foundations (FF) Summer Schools are designed to raise the career and university aspirations of the most talented 16 and 17-year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are typically hosted by Independent Schools and ensure students receive quality information and guidance about applying to top universities.  FF Summer Schools started in 2005 with Norwich School, coordinated by Future Foundations and funded by Aim Higher.  Now in its fifth year, student numbers have grown from 60 in 2005 to over 300 in 2009.  FF are currently preparing the 2010 Summer Schools programme. This year's Summer Schools will include guest speakers, team games, one-to-one coaching, academic subject tutorials, interview preparation and life skills training (FF trainers will run a series of personal development workshops alongside the academic tutorials).

What is Operation Summer Sun? It is an ambitious recruitment drive to find the best, most talented inspiring students and graduates who are ready to take on the challenge of becoming a FF Tutor.

Who are FF Tutors? Bright and motivated undergraduates and graduates with experience of inspiring young people and a passion for helping people reach their potential. They will be team players, passionate about their academic subject, with an ability to work hard and inspire others.

What will their role be?  Their role will be to help support, design and implement academic tutorials (we offer General Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths, Geography, Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages, History of Art, Economics and English).  You would typically be allocated to the subject of your choice/the subject you have done at University.  For the Colchester Summer School you would lead the tutorial on your own with a small group of students.  For Westminster and Highgate Summer Schools you will work alongside Independent School teachers to deliver tutorials to larger groups.  There will also be other exciting opportunities throughout the Summer Schools for Tutors to share their experience and advice for students, e.g. University Student Panel and Inspiring Stories (your chance to share your story!). Last year one of the Tutors used their debating experience to run a debating workshop for all students.  They will work closely with a team of FF trainers who together will provide the energy needed to create an experience the students will never forget.

When are the Tutors needed?  Tutors need to be available for most (if not all) of our summer school dates.  These dates are:

  • Colchester Year 11 Summer School - (leave 11th) 12th - 14th July (residential - Cambridge)
  • Westminster Year 11 and 12 Summer School - 19th - 23rd July (non–residential – Central London)
  • Highgate Year 10 and Year 12 Summer School - 23rd – 27th August (non–residential – North London)

We also have other events that we would potentially involve you in during June/July if you have availability, for example:

  • St Angela's Ursuline Top University Preparation Days - 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd June
  • The Youth of Today Summer Residential [Young Leaders Programme] - 7th to 9th August

With schools and other youth organisations still contacting us with interest, more dates might be added with time.  We will let you know of any additional dates as soon as possible.  If there are any dates you cannot make, please let us know through the registration page.

Recruitment schedule: If you think you have what it takes to inspire young people, apply by clicking on register at the top of this page.  The deadline for applying is the 23rd of April 2010.

What happens next?  After submitting your registration, we will contact all successful applicants.  These applicants will be invited to our office for an interview (the first interview date for is Wednesday 28th April). Potential tutors will be asked to email through a sample tutorial plan and an updated CV ahead of the interview, and to bring a copy on the interview day.

After that, we will let you know if you've been selected as an FF Tutor.  From there we will schedule additional training and next steps with you.

If you have any questions please contact Veronica on 02031372290 or by email:  office.user@future-foundations.co.uk

Please note:  There are 20 questions excluding contact details on the next page. Answers should be to the point and in all cases less than 250 words.  You should allow up to 20 minutes to complete them (but the system will give you 60 minutes.)
